The biggest rivalry at this year's Pan-Africa is between two of the younger competitors in the superheavyweight division: Tedi Ballo and John "Snake" Assombo. The two competitors share a lot in common in their history. Both were introduced and guided into the sport by older mentors who achieved minor pro fame; Snake was brought in by his older brother, pro naked bodybuilder Charles Assombo, and Joff was guided by his uncle Tedi Ballo, also a pro naked bodybuilder. Both competitors are relatively new pros, but beyond their similar teen-years in the sport, the two have evolved into very different competitors.
Joff Ballo has worked extensively over the years with the current reigning Mr. Alpha himself, Pierre Douton. Likewise, Ballo took mentorship from the previous Mr. Alpha JK Roher. Ballo's networking with the big names has paid off, as he is at his thickest and largest ever.
